Solicitor/Barrister Role

Solicitor or Barrister: Education and SEN

London NW1, hybrid  |  At least 1 year PQE  |  Permanent

Competitive salary and benefits  |  Scope to grow with the firm

We are looking for a solicitor or barrister to take a key leadership position in the team. This is a permanent role which carries real supervision responsibility, and it offers the right person room to develop with a growing boutique firm.

About SV Law

SV Law is a specialist education and special educational needs practice acting for local authorities and schools. We are a close-knit firm of about a dozen people based in the Knowledge Quarter, Impact Hub Euston in London NW1. Our work focuses on complex disputes around SEN at the First-tier Tribunal (Special Educational Needs and Disability), Upper Tribunal, and High Court judicial reviews. Our team works ‘hand-in-glove’ with local authority decision makers. The work is demanding and high volume in places and offers scope for developing advocacy skills.

The role

We are looking for a qualified lawyer to take a leading position in our team to help supervise them with their caseload. This is a role with real responsibility for client relationships, and, for the right person, real management responsibilities. You will be part of the senior leadership team, closely involved with the firm’s marketing. Importantly, this is a role in which you will conduct your own advocacy: you will appear for our clients yourself at the First-tier Tribunal and in the Upper Tribunal. You will mentor and motivate a team of exceptional paralegals, many

of whom go on to top chambers and/or judicial assistant positions.

About you

  • Qualified as a solicitor or barrister in England and Wales, with a current practicing certificate or eligible for one

  • At least 1 year’s post-qualification experience

  • Demonstrable experience in education and SEN law

  • Confident conducting your own advocacy

What we offer

Salary package is competitive and will reflect your expertise and experience. We are interested in candidates with considerably more than 1 year’s PQE as well. There is no upper limit: tell us what you have done, and we will assess the role and the package accordingly.

How to apply

Please send a CV and a short covering letter to satnam.virdi@sv-law.co.uk. If you would like an informal, confidential conversation about the role before applying, we will be happy to discuss it with you.

Closing date: 5pm on Monday 30 November 2026. We will review applications as they arrive and may close early if we find the right person, so please apply promptly.
